Author Bio: Emily Dickinson was an American poet born on December 10, 1830, in Amherst, Massachusetts. She is considered one of the most important figures in American poetry, known for her unique and unconventional style. Dickinson lived much of her life in isolation and was known for wearing white clothing and avoiding social interactions. Despite being a prolific writer, she published only a handful of poems during her lifetime. It was only after her death in 1886 that her sister, Lavinia, discovered her cache of nearly 1,800 poems. Her poetry is characterized by short lines, unconventional capitalization and punctuation, and themes of death, immortality, nature, and spirituality. Some of her most famous poems include "Because I could not stop for Death" and "Hope is the thing with feathers."
